About Me

Hello!

My name is Xiaoyang Xu (she/her/hers).

I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Better Government Lab, McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University working on several case studies of how government adopts technology innovations from civic techs to improve public's access to social benefits. To explore this process, we are interviewing officials and staff from the federal, state, tribal, and local governments, as well as civic techs and community-based organizations.

Starting in the fall 2025, I will be an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science, University of South Carolina.

My research interests include gender and public administration, equal access to public services, budgeting, and theories of representative bureaucracy.

I am a mixed-method scholar- I apply qualitative (interviews and archival research), quantitive (large-N data analysis), and survey experimental methods in my research.

I received my Ph.D. in public administration and public policy from the Department of Public Administration and Policy at American University in 2023, my bachelor's degree in public administration and nonprofit management (2017) and Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University (2018).
